| Umstead Hospital's "Healing Suns" is a public art project, sponsored by the State of North Carolina - Artworks for State Buildings Program. The artwork consists of two hand forged wrought iron gates and a large 42 foot wide, etched glass wall depicting a sun and clouds motif. The artwork is designed to provide both security and a sense of well-being to patients and their families. The design reflects an enlightened attitude towards mental health care--one of nurturing recovery in a nonthreatening environment. |
