2006-2007:

Speaker and instructor at the 6th International Blacksmithing Seminar in Lima, Peru sponsored by Aceros Arequipa.

Instructor for "Creative Metalsmithing" - a 7 week (Saturdays) hands on workshop through Central Carolina Community College given at the artists studio.

November 2007 three day workshops in each of three cities Huancayo, Lima, and Piura Peru including over 180 students teaching the hot forging of a design I created specifically for Peruvian blacksmiths. Design based on Nazca Lines and the hummingbird glyph to make a hand crafted book end which can be sold to the tourism industry.

2005-2006:

Commission of the Marci Chandelier - an LED fiber optic custom designed chandelier.

Converted the ArtMetal.com web site from a static html site to a social networking web site using the Drupal Content Management System.

Commissioned by Miromar Development Corporation for copper wall sconces and front entry doors for the International Design Center in Naples, Florida. This was a collaborative project with other artists.

2003-2005:

Began “The Vega Collection” a collection of mid priced limited edition hand crafted decorative accessories and furniture for art galleries.

2001-2002:

Public art commission for an outdoor sculpture entitled “The Talley Trylon” for the North Carolina State University Art & Design Gallery in Raleigh, NC.

Commission for wall sculpture, door grills, and candelabrum for the Hayes Barton Methodist Church Columbarium in Raleigh, NC.

1999-2001:

Thirty foot driveway art gates for private residence in Texas using stainless and bronze CNC plasma cut design. Complete documentary can be found at:

Design and production of the “Aviary Collection” of garden art including a sculptural birdfeeder, birdbath, and birdhouse.

1996-1997:

April;  Public Art Commission for the John B. Umstead Hospital Butner, NC.  Commissioned through the Artworks for State Buildings Program; North Carolina Arts Council Department of Cultural Resources.  Commission for two entry gates and an etched glass sculpture to be incorporated into the South Courtyard fencing. 

August; “Commissioning of a Fireplace Screen on the Web” First use of the Internet for communications on the design and fabrication of a fireplace screen with a client in Mercer Island, Washington.

1994-1995:

March; Public Art Commission for the West Town Mall in Knoxville, TN.  A 16' high by 12' diameter horizontal sundial has been commissioned by the DeBartolo Corporation.  The sundial is forged from steel and brass and is inlaid with etched glass.

June; Washington University, St. Louis, MI.  Instructed Computer workshop, "Forging into the Communications Age" for the 1994 National ABANA Conference.

June; Founded “The ArtMetal Project”  - a metalworking resources for archiving artistic metalwork worldwide.  The project is on the World Wide Web at: http://www.artmetal.com/project

1993-1994:

May; Exhibiting artist at Edgewood Orchard Galleries; Fish Creek Wisconsin.                   

April - May “Primordial Forged Sculpture” in a two person show at Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC.

METALS (TECHNICAL) BACKGROUND:

1978

Welding degree from Randolph Technical College. AWS (American Welding Society) D1.1 certification on structural welding. Course curriculum included; blueprint reading, machine shop tooling, oxyacetylene welding, stick welding, TIG welding, sheet metal forming.

1979-1984

Six week pre certification for structural welding at Sharon Harris Nuclear Power Plant. Final certification as a boiler maker in the nuclear plant. Followed by updates in certification to pipe welding with TIG and stick in all positions.

Transfered to work with Carolina Power & Light as a Quality Control Inspector implementing controlled welding inspections based on the NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission) procedures.

1985-1989

Transferred to corporate office for Carolina Power & Light Quality Assurance Department in downtown Raleigh. Certified as Quality Assurance Specialist. Duties included maintaining procedure updates for all three nuclear facilities, data presentation using statistical analysis software, on site audits of records, etc.
