Horizontal Sun Dial

This sun dial is a public art commission for the West Town Mall in Knoxville, TN. The commission was awarded by the DeBartolo Corporation architectural firm.

As the sun penetrates the building, a shadow is cast from the gnomen unto the 1" thick laminated glass which has hour lines etched into its surface. The viewer then has the ability to view the time from underneath the sun dial. An additional deep carved mountain landscape is artificially lighted in the lower section of this sculpture.

The sun dial is forged from solid steel stock as thick as 3" sq. For contrast in color, the base section has forged naval brass inserted as an integral design component.
