Slide Gate Set Up

Since the slide gate is going to span more than twenty feet, I've decided the best way to do the assembly is to build it standing straight up. My studio floor is level, so I will use levels and squares to verify plumbness of the slide gate. The boards shown underneath the bottom rail will be used to help support the gate in the vertical position.
Layout marks are placed on the rail to show the center and end positions for each of the ten foot panels. These marks will be used to help in the placement of the stainless center sheets.
The first panel is set with the aid of a two ton bridge crane. The crane will hold this section in the vertical position until I get some tack welds placed along the bottom rail. Wood bracing will be added for lateral support before the load is released from the crane.
