Adding Second Stainless Panel

Once I have completed the welding of the panel to the bottom rail, I proceed to bracing the right slide gate panel with two sets of wood braces.

Remember the first photo showing the bottom rail and wood slats? Well, this is where they come into play.

The lateral braces are affixed to the bottom cross braces with wood screws. The top bracing as you can see is clamped to the opposite brace and sandwiches the stainless panel between the two braces.

While I still have the stainless angle clamped to the first section, I set the second section and proceed to clamp and tack weld as I did the first section.

Once both stainless panels are welded to the bottom rail, I set the top rail in place and move the stainless angle to the top section so that any bowing of the sheet will be removed.

The top rail is being TIG welded because the welding is being done in an overhead position. MIG welding is not known for its abilities to weld overhead.
