Once the solder joint has had some time to cool down, a 60 grit flap disc impregnated with zirconium is used to remove the excess solder and flux. |

I then go over the same joint with a finer 3M Scotch Brite pad. This abrasive smoothes out the scratches left behind by the more aggressive zirconium wheel. |

||||
|
The last stage of abrasive cleaning on the solder joint is the use of a coarse grade hand pad. Working the grain over the completed area gives the adjacent areas a consistent look so that the application of the antique black patina will blend over the entire area. |
