After welding the frame to the stainless sheet and attaching the spacers, the antique brass plate is set onto the panel for final hand burnishing. |

The stainless steel artwork which is sandwiched between two brass plates carries the main structural integrity of all components for the driveway gate. It is degreased and then sanded with a 7" grinder using zirconia impregnated flap discs. The nature of stainless steel makes any kind of cutting/drilling/grinding very difficult, and is why I use special abrasive medium to cut the circular free flowing patterns into the base metal. As you can see from the pictures above, 316 stainless coupling nuts are used to separate the brass and stainless from each other. This not only gives a three dimensional look to the artwork, but also prevents electrolytic corrosion from occurring between dissimilar metals. |
