Once all the components are cut, fitted, and tacked, I weld the stainless steel with .030 308L MIG stainless welding wire. Welds are located two inches every six inches and care is taken to alternate weld sides to prevent weld distortion. Stainless steel is notorious for warping due to the toughness of the metal. After welding is completed, all welded areas are wire wheel brushed with stainless knotted wire wheel brushes. Care must be taken to use abrasives that do not contain carbon steel because iron particles left on the stainless will allow for iron oxide or "rust" to form on the outer layer of the stainless steel. |
